2016 BOLD Cabernet by RJV

In the mouth, all that rich cherry and savory olive in the nose influences hardcore as the glass moves to your lips. But then it hits your palate and one of the first things you notice is the amount of structure that is alongside this beautiful fruit. Any visions of flabbiness gained from the nose are dashed as soon as all this acid and tannin wrap your tongue, driving the fruit–which doesn’t feel so loud anymore–into the background. Licorice and tobacco claw at your insides, slowly releasing their grip on the now-bright fruit, tempering it with oil-rubbed wood and velvet theatre seats before it dries out COMPLETELY in the brash finish.

Tasting Notes
Aromas: Blueberries, cedar and spice Flavors: Dark chocolate, blackberries and caramel Profile: medium in body and show very soft tannins, it provides a silky-smooth texture that's integrated with the tannins and oak for a complex palate and long finish. Already quite approachable but has the acidity and tannins to age very nicely.
Vineyard Notes
Vintage: For RJV Wines, 2016 extends a run of exceptional years for Cabernet Sauvignon to five in a row. Our only regret is that there wasn't more fruit! Harvest was a roller-coaster ride as the year swung from hot to cold and hot again. While there weren't severe heat spikes, the periods of hot days followed by runs of cooler days meant that the fruit ripened in waves. The young wines are aromatically expressive, open-knit and inviting, with soft contours, generous dark fruit and plenty of promise.
